In late 2006,
approximately 3,000 children’s books were sent
to Nepal. These books were donated by numerous
individuals, schools, libraries and community
centres (including Ravenswood School, Clovelly
Public School, Waverly Community Centre -
PlayGroup, Waverly and Randwick Library) and by
some leading publishers and bookshops (including
Harper Collins, Hachette Livre, Random House,
Pan Macmillan, Lindfield Children’s Bookshop)
and a number of market research companies
(including Jigsaw Strategic Research and the
Leading Edge – Melbourne)
-
These books will be used in
each of the Early Childhood Development Centres
and later in the Secondary School of our
project. But there were so many, that we have
distributed many to other schools and
organisations in Kathmandu
-
The benefactors include Educ-Nepal
- which runs an informal schooling project,
Peace Star School, the Reading Room – a small
library where children and adults in Boudha can
come and learn English and read, Mahendra Boudha
Secondary School, Shree Chandrodaya Lower
Secondary School, Shree Basanta Primary School, to name just a few!
