In October 2006, Sailung TriNetra opened Toast, a bakery and café in Boudha, Kathmandu. Operating as a not-for-profit business, 100% of all profits and donations are invested back into Sailung TriNetra to help fund further projects.

The bakery and café is currently being run by Nir Thapa, an experienced Head Chef who has previously worked for the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute in Delhi. Nir is also training up  unskilled locals, augmenting their skills by teaching them how to bake bread and run a Western style bakery/café. The business fully supports itself and Toast’s chocolate cake with sauce and brown bread is gaining a cult following amongst Boudha locals!

In addition to providing an administrative center for Sailung TriNetra and a source of revenue for the organization, the bakery aims to help the villagers to develop valuable and transferable skills and taking ownership of the project. Since Toast has been in operation, we have trained five people who have all gone on to find employment with other local restaurants and businesses.

Toast is also a valuable promotional platform for Sailung TriNetra, attracting both locals and Westerners.
